Hello, welcome!
I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Economics at the Vancouver School of Economics, University of British Columbia, and a Ph.D. Fellow at the Stone Centre on Wealth and Income Inequality at UBC.
My research interests are in labor economics and applied microeconomics. In my job market paper, I study how unionized and non-unionized firms in Canada respond differently to negative, firm-specific demand shocks. Using linked employer-employee administrative data, I show that while both types of firms reduce employment by similar amounts, they adjust through different margins: union firms rely on early retirement of senior workers, whose wages are protected by collective-agreement floors, while non-union firms adjust by cutting hiring and wages. I then study how these different adjustment channels shape the distribution of costs across workers.
Before joining UBC, I earned a Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree in Economics from Universidad de los Andes. I also worked as a Research Analyst at the World Bank, in the Office of the Chief Economist for Latin America and the Caribbean, between 2018 and 2021.
I am on the 2026–2027 job market.
